Liberty Village feels like a suburb of Toronto

Liberty Village feels like a suburb of Toronto, even though it is right downtown.  It has suburban characterstics – a strip mall – unremarkable architecture – a huge parking lot at its centre – lots of missed opportunities.  But it has its strengths:  it’s walkable, and it has the characteristics of a healthy neighbourhood – mixed use, residential, commercial, studios, amenities, hundreds of companies.  The definition of a neighbourhood is that is has a centre and an edge – that the walk from the centre to the edge is no more than five minutes – in terms of actual distance that’s approximately 400 to 500 metres from centre to edge.
