Residents have started moving back to Regent Park

It looks like not everyone who was displaced due to the reconstruction of Regent Park is automatically being allowed to move back.  Based on this article, residents have to prove that they still qualify for subsidized housing by providing income statements and perhaps other documentation as well.  It will be interesting to see as the project develops whether the criteria are tightened up even further so that fewer and fewer of the original tenants qualify for re-admittance.  This latter situation is what has happened in certain cases in the United States where the urban slums were torn down and replaced with mixed housing and due to tightened criteria many of the original residents were forced to relocate into the suburbs where they have continued in a downward spiral of poverty.
